On
Feburary 27, 2000 a group of 15 cycle-tourists from the United States landed
at Jose Marti Airport in Havana. It was the first of a twelve day educational
tour through Cuba. The group of cyclists came from all over the U.S., spanning
Washington to Florida and California to Maine. They covered about 700 kilometers
on bicycle and the back of a truck with stops in cities and towns of central
Cuba, including Bahia de Cochinos (Bay of Pigs), Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa
Clara, Mantanzas and Havana. As they travelled, they stayed and visited
with the local Cuban population and distributed humanitarian donations.
